This is What Happens When We Let the Kids Stay Up Late

Giggles from two delirious kids.

Beauty and Barbershop

Max and Violet got some fresh fades for the beginning of school. Nick took care Max's trim (with help from the power blower) and the girls headed to a local beauty shop for the treatment.

Off to Kindergarten

No wonder he had no issues leaving us. Who wouldn't want a little break from the other two!

Walking in among the hundreds of other kids (and I mean hundreds! Almost every grade level has over 6 different classes). Him - excited, me - sobbing

Mingling

Bus rider

He made it home! He was excited to tell me all about his day, but a little disappointed he didn't get to "learn how to read yet or speak Spanish!" At least he has high hopes!

Birthdays Weekend

Last weekend, we drove to Hilton Head, SC to celebrate our last weekend of summer break and have some fun on our birthdays. We got a chance to meet up with an old friend from Butler, play in the sand and ocean, and trek up the Harbor Town Lighthouse (something we had done with Max when he was only 9 months old).

Max and Violet were treated the first night with a trip to the arcade and a late night dinner. Perfect beginning to their weekend.

It feels awesome to live so close to this.

And clearly Violet felt the same. It was like she was home in the ocean.

Harbor Town

Walking up the winding stairs of the lighthouse.

And the last time we were in Hilton Head, this is what our family looked like!!

This Past Week

Max riding his new bike - an early birthday gift.

Testing out some paper airplanes.

He took "adult swim" to the next level.

Enjoying some bluegrass music.

Jokes over milk.

Playing dress-up with her new princess clothes.

Singing the baby blues on his harmonica.

Loving life from the vertical standpoint nowadays.

Hot Stuff

On a 95 degree day, we decided to walk to a park to play after a short visit to the library. The only downside was walking home. As you can see, Violet got a little heated and decided to take matters into her own hands.

Swim Class

During the last few weeks we have left of our summer break, the kids are taking a two-week swim class at a local recreation complex. The most difficult part is keeping Teddy happy in his stroller rather than diving head first into the water!

My only saving grace - food!

Violet's Birthday Weekend

The first weekend in August kicked off our birthday extravaganza month when we celebrated Violet's 3rd birthday. Here are some clips from her fun weekend.

We don't waste anytime - gifts come first!

Peach pie for breakfast.

A little painting in the afternoon.

Sushi for dinner.

And manis and pedis for the girls on Saturday.

The kids have quickly made good friends with our next door neighbors, Elisabeth and Katherine.

"Did you see the last episode of Real Housewives? Unbelievable!"

"You missed a spot, dear."

After our lady-like afternoon, we finished off the day with a hometown favorite of Culver's corn dogs and ice cream!
